DOWNIE MS UNKNOWN, Mary
(About 1802-) |
DOWNIE MS UNKNOWN, Mary 1General Notes: The 1841 census for Incle Street in the Abbey parish of Paisley recorded a woman, Mary Downie, and three young people: Edward, Patrick and Agness, who were in all probability her children. Mary Downie was noted as being in the 40-44 years age range. She was a Tambourer, and she had been born in Ireland. In fact all were recorded as being Irish born. No adult male is included in the entry. The names of the children suggest that they are related to the descendants of Edward Downie and Agnes Dripps, and even, by traditional naming patterns, that Patrick Downie was their father. However a Patrick Downie, possibly son of Edward and Agnes, was listed by the 1841 census in Canal Street, Paisley, and a Mary Downie is in the same household! Mary married Patrick DOWNIE, son of Edward DOWNIE and Agnes DRIPPS. (Patrick DOWNIE was born in 1794 in County Derry, Ireland,2 3 died 25 April 1859 at 8.30 am in Abbey Poorhouse, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland 4 5 and was buried in Paisley Cemetery, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was chronic diarrhoea over 6 months. |
