Michael McEnearney, Sarah's father, was the informant of her birth. He gave notice before George Harris, registrar, at Blantyre on 19 March 1885 and signed the register.

Sarah was aged 6 years when recorded by the 1891 census in Blantyre, where she had been born. She was a scholar.

Sarah was recorded by the 1901 Blantyre census, living with her parents, her brother Michael, and two boarders, at 61 Hall Street. Her age was noted as 16 years and her birthplace as Old Monkland. She worked as a pit coal cleaner and was unmarried. ¹
