In June 1885 Hugh Aird was born to James and Annie Aird. James gave notice of his birth before the registrar.

In November 1889 James Aird was the informant of the birth of his son, also called James, at Darvel.

James Aird, widower who was present where the death occurred, gave notice of his wife's death before the registrar, Allan Jackson, at Newmilns on 3 January 1890. In his wife Annie's death certificate James was recorded as a 'foreman over lace workers'.

The 1891 census for Loudoun parish recorded James Aird, his two sons, and his sister living at 20 East Main Street, Darvel, Ayrshire. James was recorded as a widower, aged 36 years and born in Darvel. His occupation was noted as a 'Tenter Lace and Chenille Winding'. 3 5 6 7


James married Jean McKELVIE, daughter of John McKELVIE and Annie WAGSTAFF, on 21 August 1874 in Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Jean McKELVIE was born in 1853 in Newmilns, Ayrshire, Scotland 1.)


James next married Anne QUIGLEY, daughter of Thomas QUIGLEY and Helen BARBOUR, on 13 April 1883 in East Main Street, Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland.2 (Anne QUIGLEY was born on 15 March 1859 in Henrietta Street, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 4 8 9 and died 2 January 1890 at 11.00 am in East Main Street, Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland 3.). The cause of her death was anaemia over 2 years, jaundice over 2 months and dropsy over 11 days.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. M.G.Easten DD was the officiating minister. The witnesses were Hugh Aird and Elizabeth Hughes.

James Aird was a widower aged 29 years, of East Main Street Darvel. He was a foreman winder in a lace mill. His mother was deceased.

Annie Tweedly was an unmarried woman of 24 years of age, and of the same address as the groom. She was a machinist in a lace mill. Her mother was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Newmilns on April 16 1883, Allan Jackson being the registrar. 2

James next married Ann SMITH, daughter of Thomas SMITH and Mary WILSON, on 26 May 1897 in Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Ann SMITH was born on 22 February 1852 in Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1.)
