The 1871 census for Loudoun Ayrshire records the family of Hugh Aird with the children's names and ages as set out here, but the wife/mother's name as Isabella Aird. She was aged 40 years and born in Darvel. Yet all the children's births record her given name as Helen. It may be she was called "Ella" or "Ellen" and this has been noted as Isabella. ³

Helen married Hugh AIRD on 18 March 1854 in Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (Hugh AIRD was born about 1833 in Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland and died after 13 April 1883 ².)
