The 1861 census for Old Monkland Western District recorded a Mary Sherry aged 5 years living with her family at Carmyle. She had been born in Hamilton and was the eldest of the four children recorded.

Mary Sherry was recorded as 15 years of age by the 1871 census for Hamilton. She lived with her family at 11 Low Patrick Street in Hamilton where she was born. ^{2 3}
