  General Notes:

Matthew was a coal miner, according to his marriage certificate in 1891.

In 1892 his daughter, Catherine, was born. Matthew, who was present where the birth occurred, notified the registrar at Hamilton, John Rae, on 10 June 1892. He was recorded then as a coal miner. He gave notice of her death in 1898.

Matthew's daughter, Rose, was born in 1893 and Matthew again notified the registrar at Hamilton and signed the register, on 15 November 1893. When Rose died in 1895 Matthew was the informant of her death.

He was the informant of his daughter, Mary's birth before William J. Rae, registrar, at Hamilton on 20 September 1895. Matthew was present where the birth occurred.

Matthew gave notice of his son, John's birth on 25 February 1898 before William J. Rae, registrar, at Hamilton. He was present where John's birth occurred.

In April 1898, less than 2 months after John's birth, his wife, Rose, died. In her death certificate she was described as 'married to Matthew McAleavy coal miner'.

In December 1898 Matthew McAleavy gave notice of his baby son John's death. Matthew was a coal miner.

In 1901 the census for Hamilton Lanarkshire recorded Matthew McLeavy, a widower, working as a coal miner, living in the household of his aunt and uncle, John and Margaret Mohan. Margaret was Matthew's father's sister. Matthew's daughter mary also lived in the household. Matthew was aged 40 years and had been born in England. Mary was 6 years old and born in Hamilton.

In the 1922 marriage certificate of his daughter Mary, Matthew was recorded as a coal miner, and deceased. 1 2 5 6 8 9


Matthew married Rose FEELY, daughter of Robert FEELY and Mary GRIMES, on 31 December 1891 in RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Rose FEELY was born 30 July 1869 at 3.15 pm in No 4 Low Patrick Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland,10 died 6 April 1898 at 8.00 pm in 29 Church Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 8 and was buried in Hamilton Cemetery, Lanarkshire, Scotland 11.). The cause of her death was heart disease of uncertain duration.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father Peter Donnelly married the couple and the witnesses were James Kennedy and Ellen Feeley.

Matthew McAleavy was aged 22 years when he married Rose Feeley. He was unmarried and worked as a coal miner. His residence was recorded as 25 Leechlee Street, Hamilton.

Rose was 22 years and a single woman. Her address was noted as 28 Castle Street, Hamilton.

The marriage was registered on 5 January 1892 at Hamilton, William J. T. Rae being the registrar.
