Robert Williamson was recorded by the 1881 census living with his parents and siblings at 60 Lethan Hill Dalmellington, Ayrshire. He was 30 years old and unmarried. His birthplace was Muirkirk Ayrshire and his occupation iron miner.

The 1900 US Census recorded Robert Williamson and his wife, Cate Williamson, and their children, living in Cardiff, Jefferson, Alabama. They had arrived in 1887 in the US. Robert worked as a coal miner.

In 1910 the federal US census of that year recorded Robert Williamson living with some of his children in Precinct 18, Jefferson, Alabama. He was a widower. 2 3


Robert married Catharine QUIGLEY, daughter of Thomas QUIGLEY and Helen BARBOUR, on 29 June 1883 in Broadwood, Coylton, Ayrshire, Scotland. (Catharine QUIGLEY was born 23 June 1860 at 3.45 pm in Old Manse Close, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 4 5, baptised on 10 September 1860 in St Joseph's RC Parish, Kilmarnock, Scotland 6 and died before 28 April 1910 in Alabama, USA 3.)


  Marriage Notes:

The couple were married according to the rites of the Church of Scotland. The minister was James Glasgow, and the witnesses were Hugh Williamson and Susan Hay.

Robert, the groom, was 31 years old at the time of his marriage in 1883, a bachelor, and an iron miner. He was described as 'of Burnfoot Hil, Dalmellingtonl'.

Catherine, his bride, was 23 years, unmarried, and a dairy maid. She was 'of Broadwood, Coylton'. Her mother had already died by the time she was married.

Both the bride and groom signed the book before the registrar John Smith. 7
