James Quigley, the baby's father, who made his X mark, was the informant of the birth. He gave notice at Newmilns on 27 March 1858 before the registrar, Andrew Campbell.

John Quigley was recorded as aged 2 years by the 1860 US census for Washington Territory where he lived with his family at Lake River in Clark County. He had been born in Scotland.

The 1870 census for Multnomah County, Oregon recorded John Quickly living with his family in Portland. He was 12 years of age and had been born in Scotland. He was 'at home' and not in any occupation. He had attended school within the year. 2 5 6 7
