Father James Danaher baptised Mary, lawful daughter of James Lynch and Alice Summers, at St Mary's RC Chapel Hamilton on 14 June 1872, as recorded in the baptismal records of that parish by his own hand. The baby's sponsors were Alice McKewan [sic] and Michael Carty.
The 1881 census recorded Mary aged 10 years, a scholar, living with her family at 2 Eddlewood Road, Hamilton. She had two older and one younger brother and one younger sister. She was born in Hamilton. 2
