  General Notes:

Margaret Quigley's mother also Margaret Quigley was the informant of her birth before the registrar at New Cumnock on 14 August 1875 and made her X mark. Her daughter's middle names were the maiden surnames of the mothers of the child's parents.

An apparent anomaly in the Dalziel 1881 census entry for Peter/Patrick & Margaret Quigley in Dalziel Street, Motherwell, is that they appear to have two Margarets described as daughters living with them. In fact, one is their daughter, the twin of their son, Peter, and the same age as him; the other is aged 6 years. The second Margaret is this Margaret, their son John's child, and so was their granddaughter. Since her own mother was dead, it may be that she had effectively become their child, to raise at that time.

In the 1891 census for Hamilton, Margaret Tweedley was recorded as 15 years of age.

Margaret gave birth to her daughter, Margaret Stevenson McArthur, in August 1900. The baby's parents were not married, but both signed their daughter's birth notice, and the child was given her father's surname.

The census of 1901 recorded Margaret Tweedley, aged 24 years, living with her father and step mother at 29 Ardenlea Street in the Dalmarnock/Bridgeton area of Glasgow. She was recorded as being a single person, born in New Cumnock, Ayrshire. She worked as a shirt machinist. 4 5 7 8
