In 1891 Andrew and his family were recorded by the 1891 census living at Annsfield Place Blantyre. He was recorded as aged 30 and was a Coal Check Weigher by occupation.

It was Andrew who notified the registrar of Jane Cavanagh's death. He was recorded as her son-in-law.

When his son Peter married in 1910 Andrew's occupation was recorded as "coal weigher". ^{1 6 7}
