  General Notes:

In the 1891 census, at Wellington Street Infirmary, Kilmarnock, a patient called Margaret Quigley was recorded. She was married, aged 27 years, a miner's wife and was born in Galston in Ayrshire. Given all the circumstances it seems very likely that that young patient was John Quigley's wife, formerly Margaret McNamara, the mother of Michael and Catherine staying at their grandparents' house.

The 1901 census entry for 8 Chapel Lane Galston recorded Margaret living there with her husband and family of seven children. She was recorded as aged 37 years. 3


Margaret married John QUIGLEY, son of Michael QUIGLY and Ann WOOD, on 29 July 1887 in St Sophia's RC Church, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (John QUIGLEY was born on 30 September 1864 in Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 4 5 6 and died 18 April 1936 at 3.05 am in 6 Blair Crescent, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was pulmonary oedema for 2 days.


  Marriage Notes:

John was a bachelor aged 23 of Chapel Lane Galston. He worked as a coal miner.

Margaret was an unmarried woman of 24 of Ironwork Square Galston. She was a domestic sevant. She made her X mark.

The priest who married the couple was Henry S. Laverty and the witnesses were Andrew Graham and Catherine MacNamara.

The marriage was registered at Galston on July 30 1887, the registrar being James C. Hutchison. 1
