The record of baptisms of St Mary's RC parish in Hamilton, Scotland, recorded, in the hand of the priest James Danaher who baptised him, the baptism of Andrew Lynch, son of James Lynch and Alice Summers. The extract noted the date of Andrew's birth as 10 December 1873. His baptism took place on 4 February 1874, his godmother being Margaret Curran.

The 1881 census recorded Andrew aged 6 years, a scholar, living with his family at 2 Eddlewood Road, Hamilton. He had two older brothers, one older sister and one younger sister. He was born in Hamilton.

In the 1891 census, he was recorded living with his mother, Alice, and his brother, Daniel, at 45 Dixon Street, Blantyre. He was aged 17 years, and was working as a coal miner. He was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

Andrew's daughter, Alice, married in 1923. In her marriage certificate, Andrew was recorded as being a coal miner.
