General Notes: The 1861 census recorded Jane Adams as 33 years old and living with her husband and 10 year old son at Pathhead in Crichton parish, Midlothian. She had been born in Ireland. The couple ran a grocer's and common lodging house, and a family of five called Camble lived there, as well as a 61 year old man called Alexander Lawson. 3 Jane married James ADAMS, son of Joseph ADAMS and Mary ADAMS, on 10 December 1855 in Borthwick Manse, Borthwick, Midlothian, Scotland.1 (James ADAMS was born about 1831 in County Armagh, Ireland 2 3 5.) Marriage Notes: The marriage was celebrated according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Cathcart Leslie, minister of Borthwick, married the couple. The witnesses were John Adams and David Adams. |
