"Thomas Fraser of Knockie and Strichen, who was the second son of Alexander, fourth Lord Fraser of Lovat, by Janet, daughter of Sir John Campbell of Calder. On 24 September 1557 his father granted him a charter of Meikle Ballycharynach and Knockie. He had also charters of Inchany, Fairlie, Kinmyles, and other lands. On 25 January 1590-91 he had a charter of the barony of Strichen, which he acquired from Katherine and Violet Fraser, the daughters and heiresses of the late Thomas Fraser of Strichen, a son of the Laird of Philorth, who was killed by John Gordon, younger of Gight, in a quarrel. He was tutor to his nephew Simon, Lord Lovat, on the death of his brother Hugh in 1576."

Thomas married Isobel FORBES, daughter of John FORBES of Balfluig and Janet FORBES, after 1576.1 (Isobel FORBES was born about 1542 and died on 30 November 1611 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Thomas Fraser of Knockie) married Isobel or Elizabeth Forbes, a daughter of John Forbes of Corsindae, and widow successively of William Chalmer of Strichen, and secondly, of Thomas Fraser, son of Alexander, seventh Laird of Philorth ..."

from Scots Peerage (vol 5)

"After Thomas's death his widow married Thomas Fraser of Knockie, a cadet of Lovat, who, after the marriage, bought up the interests of his step-daughters in Strichen with consent of Sir Alexander Fraser, eighth of Philorth, who was their guardian. Thomas Fraser of Knockie was henceforth designated of Strichen, and became the ancestor of the present Lord Fraser of Lovat."

from Scots Peerage (vol 7)

"Having been left a widow by the murder of her first husband, Isabel Forbes, who, by the charter of 1573, had obtained infeftment in the estate of Strichen, oddly enough, married a second husband, who bore the same name as that of her first. This was Thomas Fraser of Knockie, second son of Alexander, fourth Lord Lovat, and he, after his marriage, and probably after the birth of his son, made an arrangement by which he bought up the interests of his two step-daughters, with the consent of Sir Alexander Fraser, eighth of Philorth, who had obtained the guardianship of the young ladies ; and thereupon they resigned in his favour, and disponed to him the estate and barony of Strichen, for which he received a charter under the Great Seal of King James VI. in 1591."
