  General Notes:

"Sacred to the memory of Sophia Strachan, spouse to William Aven, Custom House officer at Portsoy, and some time ago merchant in Banff, and daughter to Alexander Strachan, late Postmaster there. She died 10th April, 1781, aged 47 years 10 months, and are interred here Alexander Aven, born 6th May, 1761, aged 14 days, George Aven, born 26th February, 1762, aged 7 months, Archibald Aven, born 26th September, 1760, aged 14 months, sons of said William Aven and Sophia Strachan. By God's grace from above, which still continued our love. A faithful and obedient wife, and dutiful to her children all her life. Erected by William Aven, 1781."

Sophia married William AVEN Custom House Officer and Merchant. (William AVEN Custom House Officer and Merchant was born about 1730 and died after 1781.)


Sophia next married John LAVERY in 1586.1 (John LAVERY was born about 1760 2 and died before 15 Feb 1855.)

"Alexander (see Note below) Bannerman of Elsick married Elizabeth Johnston, daughter of John Johnston of that Ilk and of Caskieban, in 1586.

He lived at Elsick, ScotlandG.2 In 1609 he suceeded to the estates of Waterton (near Aberdeen) and Elsick (in the Barony of Cowrie in the Mearns.) In 1611 he sold the estate of Waterton to John Johnston of that Ilk and of Caskieban.

Note:

The husband of Elizabeth Johnston was George Bannerman, not Alexander. He succeeded his father, Alexander, in 1609.
