McCONVILL, John

  General Notes:

The 1851 census recorded John McConvill living in Carluke with his parents and brothers and sisters. His age was noted then as 15 years and he had been born in Ireland.

The 1871 census for Carnwath in Lanarkshire recorded the household of John McConvill, his wife, their six children, and John's father, Edward. They were living at 161 Haywood Village. The three adults were born in Ireland, and the children were all born in Lanarkshire, the two older children in Carluke, the others in Carnwath. John was a coal miner and his age was recorded as 38 years. The family lived in a dwelling with one windowed room. ²

There is a baptism in 1836 of a John McConville, whose father was named Edward. However his mother was named Eleanor Lavery. The baptism was Roman Catholic one in Tullylish, County Antrim, Ireland and dated 24 May 1836. The baptismal sponsors were Daniel McConville and Mary McConville. A sister Rebecca was also baptised to the same couple in 1839 in County Antrim. Edward McConville and Eleanor Lavery married in 1835 in County Down. ^{3 4}

John married Ann HYND on 28 May 1858 in Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Ann HYND was born about 1835 in Ireland.)

  Marriage Notes:

A date for this marriage is recorded in the IGI as 23 May 1858 at Carluke. This is more likely to be part of the calling of the banns of marriage, and the later date to be the actual marriage. The Lanark record notes the bridegroom's name as 'Conville', the Carluke record notes it as 'McConvill'.

John next married Margaret QUEEN, daughter of Owen QUIN and Catherine DORIS, on 12 Nov 1624 in Saint Nicholas Parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.¹ (Margaret QUEEN was born about 1859 in Ireland ⁵.)
