Marriages

"The session being met and constitute, Sedt. Minr & Elders, compeared Jas. Sclanders and Ann Stewart, sua sponte, and acknowledged they had been irregularly married, produced lines dated Edinr. 4th. March 1778 acknowledged other as Husband and Wife, were desired to join hands, and so were declared married persons, were rebuked, exhorted, and so dismissed." 5

James next married Ann STEWART, daughter of Edward STEWART and Margaret EWAN, between 1807 and 1809.2 (Ann STEWART was christened on 5 Nov 1758 in Bothkennar, Stirlingshire, Scotland and died after 27 Apr 1810.)

  Marriage Notes:

No marriage record for this couple has been found.

The text of Margaret Home's baptism record in Clatt parish register in 1809 referred to her as 'lawful' child of her parents. This means her parents were married before her birth. The marriage between Peter Home and Christian therefore did take place.

It may have taken place in an Episcopal church rather than in the Established Church of Scotland, or it may have been a private ceremony, not recorded in the church registers.
