"George Cumming, born about 1650, son of George C. of Lochtervandich, merchant and Provost of Elgin, and Marjory, daugh. of William Leslie; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (2nd July 1667); schoolmaster of Elgin, 1668-72; passed trials before Presb. of Fordyce, and recommended for licence 7th Jan. 1674; pres. by David Collace, min. of Kinedar and Treasurer of Moray, with consent of Sir Ludovick Gordon of Gordonstoun before 2nd Aug., ord. (at Elgin) 20th, and inst. 21st Sept. 1676; died 20th Sept. 1723. He marr. (1) a daugh. of Archibald Geddes of Essil, and had issue George and William Archibald, both clergymen in the Church of England; Jean (marr. 13th April 1714, William McWilliam, Wester Gauldwell, Boharm); Margery (marr. Craig), died Dec. 1764 : (2) Anna, daugh. of Alexander Gordon of Brigs, Garmouth, she survived him s.p.[Tombst.]"
