   Cause of his death was heart failure following injury to hip 10 weeks before.7

  General Notes:

On 19 November 1854 William McGonigle and Maryann McNamee were witnesses at the marriage of Patrick McGary and Elizabeth Donnelly at St Margaret's RC Chapel Airdrie.

William's son, James, was born in 1872 and William was the informant of his son's birth. He gave his occupation as iron puddler. He gave notice of the birth before William Richard, registrar, on 8 April 1872 at Holytown and made his X mark.

William was an iron puddler. He gave notice of his wife's death at Clydesdale Iron Works in the parish of Bothwell before William Richard, registrar, at Holytown on 28 September 1874. He made his X mark.

In the 1880 marriage certificate of his daughter, Elizabeth, William McGunnigal was recorded as an iron puddler.

When William McGonnigle (sic) died in 1906 he was recorded in his death certificate as 66 years old and widower of Mary Ann McNamee. His occupation was noted as iron-worker. His parents were both dead. The names recorded for his parents differed from those on his marriage certificate: they were noted as Owen McGonnigle (not William) and Dolly Drum (not Drummond). 4 5 7 8 11

William's daughter in law Margaret McGonnigle, who made her X mark, and who had been present where his death occurred, gave notice before the registrar at Wishaw on 29 October 1906. 7


William married Mary Ann McNAMEE, daughter of Frank McNAMEE and Bridget FLYNN, on 6 May 1856 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Mary Ann McNAMEE was born about 1838 in Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6 and died 28 September 1874 at 2.00 am in Clydedale Iron Works, Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 12.). The cause of her death was inflammation following delivery.7


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church by Fr Duncan McNab, of St Margaret's Parish Airdrie.

William was aged 21 years, and a bachelor of Chapelhall in the parish of Bothwell. He was a labourer at an iron works. Both of his parents were deceased.

Mary was an unmarried woman of 18 years, also of Chapelhall.

Both bride and groom made their X mark in the register. The witnesses were Felix Donnelly and Mary Killan. The marriage was registered at Airdrie on 10 May 1856, William Landless being the registrar. 1

William next married Peter ROCKS.2 3 (Peter ROCKS was born about 1811 in County Armagh, Ireland 13.)

"IV. Alexander (Forbes) had sasine from Alexander, Lord Elphinstone, as heir to his father, December 12nd 1616; and another sasine of Miltown of Towie, December 16th 1633. He married Janet Robertson of Lude and had two sons and three daughters: William his heir; John, who married his cousin Isabel and acquired Newlands; Isabel married William Forbes of Skellater; ----- married Gordon of Blelack; ----- married Donald Cattanach of Toldaquhill."
