  General Notes:

A couple of this name were recorded in the 1861 census at 5 Burnhall Row, Cambusnethan. Edward Quiglay was there aged 40 years, a labourer, born Ireland. A child, John Kinloch, was a 'scholar' in the 1861 census, born in Busby, living with his grandfather, Edward Quigley (husband of Jane Stewart), in Cambusnethan. He was aged 8 years.

Edward was a labourer at the time of his son, John's marriage in 1871.

In 1881 when his son Edward married Catherine Hay, his father's occupation was noted as labourer.

In his son, John's death certificate, Edward was recorded as a freestone quarryman. ^{4 5}

  Research Notes:

In the 1861 census for Cambusnethan an Edward Quiglay married to Jane appears with a son Edward, aged 14 years, and a younger son John, aged 10 years.

The marriage of a John Quigley in Wishaw later whose father is named Edward suggests the two might be the same, but no absolute proof is available for this as yet (22.6.2001). Dates have to be verified and then a supposition that Jane died and Edward remarried and had another son called Edward is also required.

Edward married Jane STEWART. (Jane STEWART was born about 1815 in Ireland or Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland ⁶.)

Edward next married Patrick VALLELY.¹ (Patrick VALLELY was born about 1814 in Ireland ⁷ and died before 30 Sep 1879 ⁷.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Mr. David Carnegie married, thirdly (contract 26 April 1594 at Kinnaird) Janet Henrison, widow of Alexander Guthrie, Common Clerk of Edinburgh, but by her, who survived him, had no issue."
