  • Christened: 16 Jun 1889, St Bridget's RC Church, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1

  General Notes:

Father Peter H. Terken baptised James. Joseph McGreehan and Mary Meehan were his baptismal sponsors. 1

James married Catherine DONALDSON, daughter of James DONALDSON and Rose Ann McGREEHIN.2 (Catherine DONALDSON was born on 19 May 1886 in Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 and was christened on 23 May 1886 in St Bridget's RC Church, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

Referring to volume 1 of The Scots Peerage where it was stated, on page 149, lines 11 and 12, that Joanna's sister Margaret had married as her second husband Robert Stewart:

"p. 149, 11. 11 and 12, delete 'and, secondly, to Robert Stewart of Lome, by both of whom,'

and add

4. Joanna, married to Sir John Stewart of Ennerme [Innermeath], as is shown by a commission from Pope Benedict XIII. to the Bishop of St. Andrews to dispense with the marriage, dated at Avignon 5 Kal. October Anno 3 (A.D. 1397) (Regesta Avenionensia, 303, f. 556). They had issue."

from Scots Peerage (vol 9 Addenda et Corrigenda)

Note:

Without seeing the original text one cannot account for the husband of Joanna being named here as 'Sir John'.. It may have read in Latin,
'son/heir of Sir John etc', and then been mistranscribed, for there is no other mention of Sir John Stewart of Innermeath having had a second wife.

"Robert Stewart, Lord of Lorn, succeeded his father. He was one of the commissioners appointed in 1421 to treat with England for the release of King James I., and was one of the hostages for his ransom in 1424. In 1425 he was one of the jury who condemned Murdoch, Duke of Albany, and his sons. He married Johanna, daughter of Robert, Duke of Albany, Governor of Scotland, a dispensation for the marriage, as they were in the fourth degree of consanguinity, being granted by Pope Benedict XIII. at Avignon on 27 September 1397 ; and in a charter from the Duke, about 1409, he is styled 'filius suus' "
