William Fulton, Mary's father, a cabinet factory fireman, was the informant of his daughter's birth on 19 April 1898. ⁴

Mary married David WESTWATTER, son of Robert WESTWATTER and Helen FRENCH.^{1 2} (David WESTWATTER was born on 10 Feb 1754 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Scotland ⁶.)

"William was twice married. His first wife was the Honourable Christian Ruthven, seventh and youngest daughter of William Second Lord Ruthven by his wife the heiress of Dirleton. It is suggested that they were married around 1550. As part of the contract for the marriage between Christian and William, Christian came with a marriage tocher of 2500 merks, which was still being paid to William in 1556."

Mary next married Samuel James BALLANTYNE, son of John BALLANTYNE and Elizabeth HOPKIN, on 27 Sep 1918 in 18 Crawford Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.³ (Samuel James BALLANTYNE was born in Aug 1890 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland ⁷.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Charles Peter Grant was the minister. Michael Duffy and Susan Ballantyne were witnesses.

Samuel Ballantyne was 28 years old and single. He worked as a rope maker and lived at 108 (or 168) Drumfrochar Road Greenock.

Mary Fulton was living at 18 Crawford Street Greenock. She was a single woman aged 30 years. No occupation was noted. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Greenock on 30 September 1918.

Note: The extract shows Mary Fulton's age in a rather smudged way, but the most likely number, looking at it, is 30. We know from her 1898 birth certificate that it should read 20. ³
