PARISH RELIEF APPLICATION
An application was made on behalf of Sarah McGonagle on 18 December 1877 at 8.30 pm by her grandmother Catherine Niven. Sarah was 4 years of age and in the care of Catherine Niven. Their address was noted as 43 Dale Street. Sarah's parish of birth was Govan according to the application. She was a Roman Catholic. Her father was William McGonagle (absconded), a tailor. Her mother was Mary Ann Niven. Sarah was 'partially disabled' by childhood. She had no earnings. Her father's address was unknown. Her mother was residing at 21 Liverpool Street Newcastle on Tyne. Mother had four of a family. Two of these with their grandmother Catherine Niven at 43 Dale Street and the other two were residing with their mother in Newcastle. Grandmother was applying for medical relief only for the child.
Sarah McGonnogle was aged 7 years in 1881 when recorded by the census. She had been born in Glasgow and was a scholar. 4 5

The marriage was celebrated according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Cathcart Leslie, minister of Borthwick, married the couple. The witnesses were John Adams and David Adams.
James Adams, who made his X mark, was resident at Tynehead. He was 23 years old and was a labourer. He had been born in County Armagh. Both of his parents were living.
Jane Adams also made her X mark. Jane was 28 years of age and was a widow. She had one child living from her first marriage. Her address was also Tynehead, She was a shopkeeper. Like the groom, she had been born in County Armagh.
The marriage was registered at Borthwick on 11 December 1855, the registrar being Alexander MacDougall. 1 8
