In 1877 Catherine Niven made a parish relief application on behalf of her 4 year old granddaughter, Sarah, who along with her brother John was residing with their grandparents at 43 Dale Street on account of the separation of their parents. Their mother was in Newcastle on Tyne and their father's address was unknown. Catherine was applying for medical relief only. ⁴

Catherine married David QUIGLEY, son of David QUIGLEY and Fanny WATSON.¹ (David QUIGLEY was born about 1797.)

No marriage record has been found as yet for this couple.

However in the 1855 marriage certificate of their son James and the 1859 marriage and 1864 death certificates of their son Joseph they are referenced as the parents of these two men, so one might assume they were indeed spouses.

Moreover in the 1859 marriage certificate the bride and groom as recorded as 'cousins german', which establishes Mary Adams here as the sister of Thomas Adams. ^{1 5 6}

Catherine next married James NEVIN. (James NEVIN was born about 1810 in County Derry, Ireland ³ and died between 1881 and 1887 ⁷.)
