  General Notes:

The 1851 census recorded David Tweedlie and his family living with his widowed mother. He was a cotton factory mechanic.

In 1855 David was the informant of his son, James', birth at Glasgow. In the birth certificate information, David was recorded as a grocer aged 35 years, born in West Arthurlie. According to the same source he and his wife were married in 1849.

In the 1861 census he was recorded as a grocer, and his mother was listed as the spirit dealer.

His death certificate recorded David as aged 60 years, married, a grocer and spirit dealer at the time of death. 4 5

  Medical Notes:

Dr John MacKinlay, physician and surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Alex S. Tweedley, son of the deceased, who was present where the death occurred, notified the registrar Alex Watson at Barrhead on 7 July 1880.


David married Mary MILLAR on 17 April 1849 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (Mary MILLAR was born about 1823 in Edinburgh, Scotland 4 and died after 5 July 1880 6.)


  Marriage Notes:

The dates listed for their marriage, possibly banns included, were

1 April 1849 in Barony parish, Lanarkshire and 17 April 1849 in Barony parish, Lanarkshire.

There is also a record in the IGI of the 17 April 1849 date at Neilston, Renfrewshire. Both of the Barony entries spell David's surname as Tweedlie, whereas the Neilston record spells it as Tweedly.

David Tweedley gave the year and place of his marriage as 1849 in Glasgow, when giving notice of his son's birth in 1855. 4
