   Other names for Mary were MILLER, Mary, TWEEDLEY, Mary and TWEEDLIE, Mary.6

  General Notes:

Mary Tweedlie was recorded in the 1851 census for Neilston parish, Renfrewshire, living with her husband and some of his family, and with their first child, David, who was 10 months old. Mary Was 28 years of age and had been born in Blackford, Perthshire. A female servant was employed by the household.

In 1855 when their son, James, was born, Mary's husband, David, gave notice of his birth. Among the information in this certificate it was stated that James was the fourth child born to Mary Miller, two other boys and one girl having been born before and being still living. Mary Tweedley's age was recorded as 32 years, and she had been born in Edinburgh.

In the 1861 census Mary was caring for five more children, ranging in age from David, aged 10 years, to George who was only 2 months old. Two servants were employed in the household, possibly to help with the care of the children. 4


Mary married David TWEEDLEY, son of David QUIGLEY and Margaret STUART, on 17 April 1849 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (David TWEEDLEY was born about 1820 in West Arthurlie, Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland 4 and died 5 Jul 1880 at 11.00 am in Kelburn Street, Barrhead, Neilston Parish, Renfrewshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was apoplexy over 2 years.


  Marriage Notes:

The dates listed for their marriage, possibly banns included, were

1 April 1849 in Barony parish, Lanarkshire and 17 April 1849 in Barony parish, Lanarkshire.

There is also a record in the IGI of the 17 April 1849 date at Neilston, Renfrewshire. Both of the Barony entries spell David's surname as Tweedlie, whereas the Neilston record spells it as Tweedly.

David Tweedley gave the year and place of his marriage as 1849 in Glasgow, when giving notice of his son's birth in 1855. 4
