  General Notes:

After her husband, Patrick Rourke's death, Mary Burns remarried in January 1854 in Airdrie, according to the birth certificate of her daughter Mary. She married a man called Bernard Short, a master tailor, in his late thirties, from County Leitrim, Ireland. Four daughters: Mary (b 1855), Helen (b 1856), Ann (b 1858), and Elizabeth (b 1861), were born of this union.

In 1855 when their daughter, Mary, was born in Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, Bernard, the child's father, was the informant. The birth certificate recorded that the child, Mary, was her mother's seventh child. Mary Burns was aged 36 years then and was described as having been born in County Fermanagh, Ireland.

Mary Short died in August 1866. Her death certificate recorded her as married to Bernard Short, tailor, and as aged 46 years. Both of her parents were still living according to this certificate. 5 6

  Medical Notes:

David Watson LFPSG certified the cause of death.

John Roark, 'son in law' of the deceased, gave notice of her death before the registrar, Thomas Burdon, at Old Monkland on 27 August 1866.

NOTE: The death certificate most definitely says 'son in law' after the name of John Roark. However the four daughters Mary had with Bernard Short were at that time too young to be married. It may have have been John who was the son of Mary's previous husband, and if he was not the son of Mary, he may have meant 'stepson'. However, that John made his X mark at his own marriage in 1864. Lastly he may have been the son in law of Bernard Short, and by extension of Mary. 6

Mary married Patrick O'ROURKE. (Patrick O'ROURKE was born about 1815 in Ireland and died before 22 January 1854 in Scotland.)

Mary next married Bernard SHORT on 22 January 1854 in Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Bernard SHORT was born about 1817 in Cloones, County Leitrim. Ireland.)
