In the 1841 census for Barrhead village in Neilston parish, Mary Tweedly was recorded as aged between 30 and 34 years, and as having been born in Ireland. She had a husband, John, and six children named as living with her, aged from 13 years down to 8 months. The family lived in lodgings, the lodging keeper being a woman named Mary McWilliam, aged between 45 and 49 years and Scots born. Along with Mary McWilliam and the Tweedly family there were three young working men in their twenties and a woman between 50 and 54 years of age. Those not of the Tweedly family were all born in Scotland. ⁴

There was a Mary Nicolson born on July 15 1793 at Glasgow, Scotland.

She was the daughter of Alexander Nicolson and Cathrine Thomson. These names suggest a possible link with this family. The births of the children of Alexander and Cathrine Nicolson were:
