   Other names for Alexander were TWEEDLE, Alexr ² and TWEEDLEY, Alexander.³

The 1841 census at Neilston recorded Alexander as a muslin bleacher. He was aged 13 years and was born in Ireland.

In 1851 Alexander Tweedle was aged 25 years living in Barrhead Renfrewshire with his parents and family. He was a calico printer. The census records his birthplace as Renfrew. ²

It is not uncommon for young immigrants of the time to be recorded as being born in Ireland in the 1841 census, and in a later census to have their place of birth as Scotland. There is a variety of reasons why this was so. It was made possible since statutory registration of births was not introduced in Scotland until 1855; after that date it was not easy to dissemble.
