  Research Notes:

JANET AND ISABELLA

A child of John Tweedley and Mary Nicholson called Isabella was baptised in 1845 in Neilston. Thereafter nothing is found of her.

Another child, recorded by the 1851 census entry as born about the same time, was called Janet but no baptism records are available for her, even though the other children around this time, before and after her birth, were baptised in Neilston. Janet is recorded as a daughter of John Tweedley and Mary Nicholson in her marriage certificate of 1865.

It is real possibility that they are the same child, recorded under different given names and have been entered here as such.

Janet married John BRACKENRIDGE, son of John BRACKENRIDGE and Mary RUSSELL, on 30 June 1865 in Barrhead, Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (John BRACKENRIDGE was born about 1841 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The minister of Barrhead, Thomas Buchanan presided. William Wallace and Jane Gemmell were the witnesses.

John Brackenridge was a blacksmith of 24 years of age. He resided at Cross Arthurlie. His father was deceased.

Janet Tweedley was 21 years old and a grounder by occupation. She too was of Cross Arthurlie. Her mother was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 3 July 1865. 1
