QUIGLEY, Thomas

  • Born: September 1855, Burnhall, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland
  • Died: 20 December 1855 at 11.00 am, Burnhall, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland
  • Buried: Cambusnethan New Church Yard, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Cause of his death was Pneumonic disease attendant upon Hooping (sic) Cough over some weeks.

  General Notes:

According to his death certificate in 1855, Thomas was a mere baby of three months when he died. He had been born at Burnhall in Cambusnethan parish, and he had died there.

However no registration of the birth of this baby has yet been found for 1855, either in Cambusnethan or in another parish.

  Research Notes:

THE BIRTH OF THOMAS

Despite an extensive search no birth document has been found for Thomas. The record says he was 3 months old in December 1855 when he died, but no birth certificate for 1855 has been forthcoming. It may be that it is still to be found under a peculiar spelling of Quigley, or that he he was not actually registered at all.

  Medical Notes:

John McNab, surgeon of Wishaw, certified the cause of the baby's death. He saw the child on December 19 1855.

Thomas was buried at Cambusnethan New Church Yard, as certified by James Allan sexton.

Patrick Quigley, the child's father, informed the registrar, Andrew Griffin, on December 22 1855 at Cambusnethan and made his X mark.
