  General Notes:

The 1855 birth certificate of his daughter Mary Valaly recorded John Valaly as a collier of 20 years of age. He had been born in Dungannon in County Tyrone Ireland and married in Hamilton Scotland in 1854. John registered the details of Mary's birth before the registrar, William Richard, at Holytown Lanarkshire on 16 January 1855.

John's baby son died in 1862 aged 7 months. John was recorded in the death certificate as a coal miner. It was he who notified the registrar at Holytown, William Richard, of the child's death. He made his X mark.

John was a labourer at a colliery, according to his son John's death certificate in 1875. ^{3 5 7}

1. Witness at marriage: of John Rocks & Ellen Vallely, 8 October 1853, St Mary's RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. ² The other witness was Nancy Devlin and the priest was Father Michael Condon.

John married Agnes DEVLIN, daughter of Bernard DEVLIN and Mary DOLACHAN, on 27 February 1854 in St Mary's RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (Agnes DEVLIN was born about 1832-1836 in Banbridge, County Down, Ireland ^{5 8} and died on 18 November 1868 in Carfin, Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁸.). The cause of her death was bronchitis over some years.
