  General Notes:

Although the IGI births index records his date of birth as 6 April 1857, the Catholic register of baptisms of St Mary's parish in Hamilton records that John Vallely, son of John Vallely and Nancy Devlin was born and baptised on 30 March 1857.

John was 18 years old when he died. He died in an accident in his workplace. He worked in a mine in Carfin, Lanarkshire. His usual residence was in Carfin too. 2 3

  Medical Notes:

John was killed when he was jammed between a hutch of ironstone and the roof of the pit. His death was instantaneous. No medical attendant saw him.

His father John Vallely of Carfin notified the registrar William Richard at Holytown on June 10 1875 of his son's death, and made his X mark. 1
