VALLALEY, Charles 1

  • Born: About 1852, Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Ireland
  • Died: 16 February 1855 at 6.00 am, Longbyres, Shotts Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland
  • Buried: Burial Ground, Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Cause of his death was croup over six days.

  General Notes:

His death certificate noted that Charles was resident in the district for 2 years, which would mean his family had been there since 1852-53. He was three years old when he died. Since he was born in Carrickfergus, it suggests they had come from there to Scotland after his birth.

  Medical Notes:

John Tennant Barrie, surgeon, certified the cause of death. He saw the little boy on 15 February, the day before his death.

James Baxter, sexton, certified that Charles was buried in the burial ground of Shotts.

John, Charles's father, informed the registrar, William Paterson, on 17 February 1855 at Shotts, and made his X mark before two witnesses: John Paton, a baker from Airdrie, and Charles McKendry (surely a relative of Rose, Charles's mother). 2

Noted events in his life were:

1. Emigration, 1852-1853, Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Ireland. 2
