Other names for Peter were QUIGLEY, Peter 4 and QUIGLY, Peter.5

  General Notes:

Peter Quigley, his wife, and three of their children were recorded by the 1841 census for Fintry in Stirlingshire, living at Back Street in New Town. Peter had been born in Ireland and was recorded as being in the 65-70 years age range. He was a labourer.

In the 1851 census for Hutchesontown, near the city of Glasgow, there was a widower, born in Ireland, named Peter Quigley recorded, who was almost certainly this man. He was living at 17 Thistle Street as a lodger in the household of John and Margaret Campbell. John Campbell was a cotton spinner. Peter was aged 69 years and as well as being a widower was recorded as a labourer. Another lodger staying there was Daniel Quigley aged 19 years. He worked as a painter. Apart from the ages and names, the convincing detail is that Daniel was recorded as being born in Fintry, Stirlingshire, and this places them in this family.

Peter's death certificate of 1858 records him as a widower, a labourer when employed, and aged 77 years. No parental information was given on Peter's death certificate. 4 6

  Medical Notes:

Dr R D Tamphill certified the cause of death after having seen the patient on the 27 March 1858.

The informant was the superintendent of the asylum, James Fleming on 31 March 1858 before Archibald Hood, registrar, at Glasgow.

The funeral undertakers were Wylie and Lochhead.

Peter married Catharine CHRISTIE on 9 April 1815 in Balfron, Stirlingshire, Scotland.1 (Catharine CHRISTIE was born about 1785 in Scotland, but not Stirlingshire 4 and died between 1841 and 1851.)

  Marriage Notes:

Peter and Catharine were married on 9 April 1815.

This marriage was followed by three christenings together on the 10th April. The couple were perhaps regularising an 'irregular' marriage. Or possibly the christenings were dependent on the marriage taking place first 7
