QUIGLY, Daniel 1
- Baptised: 28 November 1829, Fintry, Stirlingshire, Scotland
Other names for Daniel were QUIGELY, Donald and QUIGLEY, Daniel.2
General Notes:
Daniel Quigley was recorded by the 1841 census living in Fintry, Stirlingshire with his parents and a sister and a brother. He was aged 12 years and worked as a cotton piecer. His birthplace was in Stirlingshire.
Daniel as recorded in the 1851 census living as a lodger in the household of John and Margaret Campbell at 17 Thistle Street, Hutchesontown, near the city of Glasgow. The census entry records Daniel as aged 19 years and a painter, and as having been born in Fintry, Stirlingshire. His father Peter was also a lodger there, although the record does not call them father and son but gives only their relationship to John Campbell, head of the household.
The 1871 census for Falkirk recorded three Quigleys living as lodgers in Back Row Falkirk in the household of Beddy Slaven: John Quigley (40 years), Ann Quigley (14 years) and Donald Quigely (sic). John and Ann are very likely father and daughter. John's wife Mary McKinalty had died at Back Row Falkirk in the previous year. John and Donald may be brothers if one proposes and accepts that Donald was an alternative version of Daniel in Scots. Donald was recorded as aged 42 years, a labourer, unmarried and born in Falkirk. (For 7 of the 8 lodgers the place of birth is written as Falkirk every time without a county name-so it may be inaccurate to some degree and may represent 'here-this place-Stirlingshire'.) Two Campbells are recorded with the three Quigleys: James and Grace. 2 3
