  General Notes:

This was the second child of this name in the family.

Sarah McNarnie was recorded by the 1851 census as head of a small household living at Mathies Land, Church Street, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. She was a widow aged 30 years, according to the entry, a pauper hand sewer who had been born in Kilmarnock. With her lived her four children, a daughter and three sons, aged between 11 years and 2 years, all of whom were recorded as having been born in Kilmarnock.

The 1861 census for Kilmarnock Ayrshire recorded Sarah Marshall and her six children living in her mother's household at 19 Fore Street. Sarah was a widow whose occupation was 'flowerer'. Her birthplace was Kilmarnock and she was recorded as 45 years old.

In 1871 Sarah Marshall lived with her daughter Ellen Marshall, aged 13 years, and her nephew Robert Brown, aged 4 years, at 26 Back Street, Kilmarnock. She was a hand sewer by occupation.

Note: Robert Marshall Brown, born 20 April 1857 in Kilmarnock, was the son of Agnes Marshall and Andrew Brown. Nine children are listed in the birth index for this couple. It is to be presumed that Agnes Marshall was a sister of Sarah, but no baptism has been found for her.

Sarah Marshall was recorded by the 1881 census for Kilmarnock living at 26 High Street. She was recorded as a widow who was a hand sewer by occupation, aged 62 years. In her household lived Robert Marshall, a scholar aged 14 years, Elizabeth Inglis, an orphan aged 7 years.

When Sarah McAnairine (sic) died in 1891 her death certificate recorded her as 75 years of age, the daughter of Robert Marshall and Agnes Logan, both deceased. It also recorded that she was "married to John McAnairine Drainer". Her daughter Mary Ann McCrae, who made her X mark and who had been present where the death occurred, of 7 High Church Lane, was the informant of Sarah's death. 4 5 6 7 8 9

"1842
Jno McAnarney
&
Sarah Marshal
John McAnarney and Sarah Marshal were married by me according to the rites of the Church and regular proclamation of Banns on (blank) day of (blank) 1842 in presence of Hugh Kelly and Eliza Brooks (signed) Alexr Smith"

Note: The IGI gives the date of this marriage variously as 23 and 25 October 1842, which may be the banns of marriage since the marriage itself took place in New Monkland parish and this date is listed for Bothwell parish. Also a misreading may be part cause of the discrepancy of date as there is a discrepancy of name spelling too. 1 2 4

Sarah next married McKINNAN. (McKINNAN was born about 1815.)

Sarah next married McDONALD. (McDONALD was born about 1815.)
