The 1861 census for Kilmarnock Ayrshire recorded Sarah Marshall and her six children living in her mother's household at 19 Fore Street. Sarah was a widow whose occupation was 'flowerer'. Her birthplace was Kilmarnock and she was recorded as 45 years old. One of the children was Sarah McKinnan, born in Kilmarnock and aged 8 years. She was listed as the granddaughter of Agnes Marshall, the head of the household. ¹
