  • Born: About 1830, County Tyrone, Ireland 2 3
  • Marriage (1): FANNING, Edward on 12 February 1855 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1

Other names for Catherine were FANNING, Catherine,3 McCONILL, Catherine,2 McCONNELL, Catherine,4 McCONVIL, Catherine,3 4 McCONVILL, Catharine 5 and McCONVILLE, Catherine.4

  General Notes:

There seems to be some confusion in the reading of Catherine's surname in the marriage document. All of the birth certificates of her children cite her name in some form as McConvil, McConvill, McConville.

Catherine Fanning, maiden surname McConvil, was recorded in her daughter Mary Ann's birth certificate of 1855 as being 25 years of age and born in Tilliliskan, County Tyrone, Ireland. Mary Ann was her first child. 3

  Research Notes:

BIRTHPLACE

'Tillyliskan' is almost certainly Tullyniskan, a parish in County Tyrone.

'Donnachana' may be a free rendering of 'Dungannon', heard spoken in a Northern Ireland accent. In Catholic parishes it is also associated with Tullyniskan and Killyman. Or it may be Donaghenry which borders Tullyniskan.

Catherine married Edward FANNING, son of John FAUNING and Ann FAUNING MS UNKNOWN, on 12 February 1855 in St Margaret's RC Chapel, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Edward FANNING was born about 1831 in County Tyrone, Ireland 2 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

Fr Duncan McNab married this couple. The witnesses were James Vallely and Jane McCartan or Carter. They were married after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church.
Note: A variation reading of the surnames of the witnesses as given in the GRO certificate is James Valleliee and McArter or McAnter

Edward Fauning, whose present and usual residence was recorded as Hollytown (sic), was aged 24 years and worked as a miner. His birthplace was County Tyrone in Ireland.

Catherine McConill, who made her X mark, was resident at Parkkurk (sic). She was aged 25 years and worked as a servant. She had been born in Donnachana, County Tyrone Ireland.

The marriage was registered on 15 January 1855 at Airdrie, William Landless being the registrar.

NOTE
Valleys have been recorded in Tullyniskan parish, where Catherine McConvil/Fanning said she was born.
