The Wishaw Press and Advertiser for Saturday 1 June 1895 carried this in its columns:

'MALTREATING A BOY
Jane Cochrane or McGonnigal, wife of a miner residing in Thomson's Square, Low Main Street, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault committed upon a young lad there on Sunday, 19th ult. It appeared that the boy had gone round to the coalhouse for coals, when the accused approached him, and , without provocation, struck him on the arm and kicked him, at the same time saying that if she did not get his mother she would get him. A fine of 10 s[hillings], or seven days imprisonment was inflicted.'


Jane married Joseph McGONIGLE, son of John McGONIGLE and Margaret Ann FOWLER, on 12 August 1883 in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Joseph McGONIGLE was born about 1865 in Ireland 2 and died 1 September 1941 at 10.20 pm in 4 Bellfield Drive, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1.). The cause of his death was senility.
