   Cause of his death was bronchitis followed by pulmonary apoplexy.4

   Other names for Peter were QUIGLEY, Patrick and QUIGLY, Peter.3

  General Notes:

'Patrick' was aged 16 years according to the 1851 census, and living in Glasgow with his mother Rose and sisters Sarah and Elizabeth.

Peter was aged 20 years and married in 1857 and working in Paisley as a joiner. He had two children.

When Peter died in 1884 he was recorded as "House Painter (master) Married to Mary Ann Mearns" and aged 45 years. His father was deceased. 6 7

Peter married Mary Ann AIRLEY on 31 December 1855 in St Alphonsus RC Church, Glasgow, Scotland.1 2 (Mary Ann AIRLEY was born in 1838 in County Leitrim, Ireland 2 and died before 15 July 1875.)


  Marriage Notes:

Peter Quigly of High Street, Glasgow, was aged 19 years and a painter by trade. He was a bachelor, and had been born and registered in County Monaghan, Ireland. He made his X mark in the register. His father, John, was deceased and his mother still living.

Mary Ann Early was an unmarried woman of 17 years. No occupation was noted. Her present and usual residence was High Street, Glasgow, but she had been born and registered in the County of Leitrim in Ireland. Her mother was deceased and her father still living.

The marriage was a Roman Catholic one, celebrated by M. Neill CC. The witnesses were John Fulton and Sarah Quigly. It was registered at Glasgow on 3 January 1856, William Barclay being the signing registrar. 2

Peter next married Mary Ann MEARNS on 15 July 1875 in St Joseph's RC parish, North Woodside, Glasgow, Scotland.3 (Mary Ann MEARNS was born about 1845 5.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. James Fanning RCC was the celebrant. Thomas Quigley and Catherine Mearns, who made her X mark, witnessed the marriage.

Peter Quigley, a journeyman house painter and a widower, was resident at 18 North Woodside Road. His age was recorded as 40 years. His father was deceased.

Mary Ann Mearns was a domestic cook and a spinster. Her age was recorded as 30 years and she too lived at 18 North Woodside Road Glasgow. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered on 20 July 1875 at Glasgow, Alexander Dewar being the signing registrar. 5
