The 1861 census for Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland, recprded John Vallely as the eldest son of John and Rose Vallely. Like his parents John was born in Ireland. He was recorded as 18 years old and worked as an ironstone miner. He was unmarried. ¹
