Bernard was aged 10 years according to the 1851 census. He was at school and lived at 72 High Street Glasgow.

It was Bernard who informed the registrar of his father Owen Lynas's death in 1864.

Bernard was a witness at the marriage of Mary Lynas in 1866 to James McCrudden.

When he himself married in 1867 both of his parents were dead.

In 1881 Bernard was recorded by the 1881 census taker as head of the household at 220 Thistle Street in the parish of Govan. He was aged 39 years and had been born in Ireland. By occupation, he was a machinist.

Bernard's death certificate of 1896 described him as aged 54 years, and as having been 'superintendent of sewing machine agents'. He had been a widower at death. 2 3 5 6 7 8

John McCrudden, Bernard's nephew, who had been present, notified the registrar at Glasgow, William Buchanan, on 1 September 1896.


Bernard married Catherine McENTEE, daughter of Patrick McENTEE and Alice MARKEY, on 14 May 1867 in 125 Saltmarket Street, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland.1 2 (Catherine McENTEE was born about 1846 in Glasgow, Scotland and died before 31 August 1896.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church.

The priest was John S. Vasall RCC and the witnesses were Alexander Gorman and Ann Diver, both of whom made their X mark. The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 17 May 1867, John Hamilton being registrar.

Bernard Lynas was a shoemaker journeyman. He was a bachelor aged 25 years of 94 Gallowgate Glasgow. Both of his parents were deceased.

Catherine McEntee was a bookfolder. She was marrying for the first time at the age of 21 years and her address was 125 Saltmarket Street, where the marriage itself took place. Both of her parents were still alive. 2
