Eliza was recorded as 9 years old when the 1841 census for Saint Peter's Parish, Dundee, was taken. She lived at Hawkhill with her family, having the place in the census entry as middle child of seven. Her birthplace was Ireland. ²

Eliza married Samuel EDWARDS on 3 February 1855 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.¹ (Samuel EDWARDS was born about 1828 in London, England ¹.)

This couple were married in an Episcopalian ceremony.

They were both of Dundee. The address for both was noted as 27 Cowgate. The groom was aged 27 years and worked as a seaman. The bride was 21 years of age and was a spinner.

The groom's birthplace was recorded as London; the bride's as Caithness. The groom's parents were noted as John and Mary Ann Edwards; the bride's as Charles McGenegil and Margaret Smith. The bride's father's occupation was mechanic; the groom's father's occupation was not legible.
