  General Notes:

The Quigley Family Tree in Ancestry.com records County Monaghan as the birthplace of James Quigley, but no source is given to verify this.

The 1871 census for Wilson's Row, Carluke recorded James and Mary Quigley and their six children living in Carluke in a dwelling that had just one room that had a window. James was 33 years old. He was a coal miner who had been born in Ireland.

The marriage certificate of his son Patrick in 1878 recorded James Quigley as a collier.

The 1881 census for Carluke Lanarkshire recorded James and Mary Quigley living with their three sons and one daughter at Wildmans Road. James was a coal miner. He had been born in Ireland and was aged 42 years.

The informant of James' death in 1910 was his son Patrick Quigley, of Wildman Bridge, Law, Carluke. James was recorded as a coal miner married to Mary Leitch. His age recorded at death was 62 years.
Note: from earlier information his age must have been more like 72 years.

In 1936 John Quigley, his son died at Carluke. James was recorded in his death certificate as a coal miner.

In 1940 his son Peter Quigley died in Wishaw. James was recorded in his son's death certificate as a coal miner. 3 4 5 6 7

  Research Notes:

Since his daughter Margaret was born in Ireland and his daughter Jane in Scotland, we may assume provisionally that James and his family came over to Scotland as a group sometime beteen 1863 and 1865.

  Medical Notes:

John Bradford MD certified the cause of death.

James married Mary LEITCH, daughter of William LEITCH and Nancy LEITCH MS UNKNOWN, 6 November 1856 or 1857 in Ireland.1 (Mary LEITCH was born about 1839 in Ireland 3 and died in 1914 8.)
