  General Notes:

The 1871 census recorded a 13 year old Patrick living with his parents and brothers and sisters in Carluke, Lanarkshire. He was recorded as a coal miner and his birthplace was Ireland.

The 1881 census for Carluke in Lanarkshire recorded Patrick Quigley, his wife and 2 children, as near neighbours of Patrick's parents in Wildmans Road. Patrick, born in Ireland, was aged 22 and worked as a coal miner.

Patrick's son and namesake was married in 1906. In hi son's marriage certificate Patrick was recorded as being a coal miner by occupation. the same occupation was recorded in his daughter Jane's death certificate in 1926. He was deceased by that year. 4 5 6 7


Patrick married Elizabeth WHISKER, daughter of William WHISKER and Mary CRAIG, on 24 September 1878 in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Elizabeth WHISKER was born on 17 June 1855 in Shettleston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 8 and died between 1881 and 1906.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant priest was Mortimer Cassin, and the witnesses were Joseph Dixon and Mary Ann Dixon.

Patrick Quigley was a single man of 20 years of age. He worked as a collier. His residence was noted as The Law, Carluke.

Elizabeth Whisker was a mill-girl, also unmarried and her age was 23 years. She lived at WhirlyBurn Row Carluke. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Carluke on 25 September 1878, the registrar being John Fraser.



Note: The witnesses were probably Joseph Dixon and his wife Mary Ann Dougan or Doogan, married at Cambusnethan in 1863.
Whirlyburn Row is transcribed as Hurley Burn Rows in the 1881 census.
