In 1891 John and Matilda Green were living at 188 South Welington Street in Glasgow with their baby son George. John was recorded as 22 years old and born in Ireland. He was a tailor's presser. Matilda, also Irish-born, was 23 years of age.

John Green, a mantle presser, gave notice of his baby son George's death in April 1891.

The 1901 census for Maryhill Glasgow recorded John and Matilda Green with three daughters and two sons living at 12 Murray Street (now Willock Street). John, a tailor's presser, was 32 years old and born in Ireland. His wife was the same age and born in the same place. The children ranged in age from 9 years to 1 year, the two older children being born in Rutherglen and the others in Glasgow.

In 1911 the census for Maryhill Glasgow recorded John Green as head of a household comprising ten people, living at 12 Murray Street. As well as himself and his wife Matilda the couple had four sons and four daughters resident with them, ranging in age from 19 years to 4 years. John was aged 42 years and had been born in Ireland. He worked a ladies' tailor with a mantle manufacturer.

In 1912 John Green, a tailor's presser, notified the registrar of his son John's death.

John Green was recorded as a tailor, and deceased, in his son Samuel's marriage of 1927 and in his son Alexander's marriage certificate of 1928.

In 1930, when his son Joseph married, John Green was recorded as a "Tailor (Deceased)". 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11


John married Matilda MILLAR, daughter of Samuel MILLER and Margaret McFARLAND, on 14 March 1890 in 34 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Matilda MILLAR was born on 21 March 1868 12, baptised on 12 August 1868 in Shankill Parish, County Antrim, Ireland 12 and died 8 January 1936 1.00 am in 12 Willock Street, Glasgow, Scotland 13.). The cause of her death was chronic bronchitis and asthma.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Andrew Leiper, Minister of Gorbals parish, married the couple. The witnesses were Alexander Miller and Jemima McLellan.

John Green was a tailor journeyman, aged 21 years and resident at 80 South Wellington Street Glasgow. He was a single man. Both of his parents were deceased.

Matilda Miller was also 21 years old and resident at the same address. She was a single woman who was a cotton mill worker. Her mother was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 14 March 1890 at Glasgow. 1
