  • Marriage (1): McLENNAN, Annie on 10 December 1852 in Glasgow, Scotland 1
  • Died: 4 April 1880 at 4.45 pm, 51 Young Street, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland

  General Notes:

In the birth certificate of his daughter Ann in 1855 William was recorded as a 'slater (journeyman) aged 24 years, born in County Derry Ireland.' He and his wife married in Glasgow in 1852 and they had had a son who had died, before the birth being recorded.

William notified the registrar of his father Charles's death in 1877. His residence then was noted as 28 Hill Street Springburn. He had been present where his father died.

William died in 1880, some time after his mother applied for parish relief in 1879. She described him in the application she made as being in the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow with chronic bronchitis, and an added note over this section of the application wrote 'dead' in red ink. He was aged 51 years, married but separated from his wife, and had one child. He was a slater by occupation and resided in Claythorn Street. His wife had a spirit shop. William had been born in Ireland.

His death certificate of 1880 recorded him as married to Annie McLennan, and by occupation a journeyman slater. His recorded age at death was 50 years. His father was deceased and his mother still living. 1 3

  Medical Notes:

James Smellie MD certified the cause of death.

The informant was William Tweedlie, son of the deceased; his address was recorded as 130 Great Hamilton Street, Glasgow. He gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, James Moore, at Glasgow on 5 April 1880.

William married Annie McLENNAN on 10 December 1852 in Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Annie McLENNAN was born about 1831 in Edinburgh, Scotland 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

The date 15 August 1852 was recorded and was possibly the banns of this marriage. The date 10 December 1852 was given to the registrar by William Tweedlie himself when registering the birth of his daughter Ann. 1
