MORENGE

This is the older spelling for this area, along with Moringe. The modern spelling is Morinsh. The postal address now reads "Morinsh Glenlivet Ballindalloch". It is situated within the Glenlivet Estate, part of the Crown Estate in Scotland. The Morinsh Woods lie north of Tombae and Tomnavoulin, north east of the Burn of Nevie, Auchorachan and Auchbreck, between Lagavaich and the site iof the 1594 Battle of Glenlivet. It was formerly within the old parish of Inveravon, Banffshire. Nearby Morinsh woods can be found Mains of Morinsh and Greens of Morinsh.

MULLOCHARD

Mullochard is north of the A95 between Boat of Garten and Grantown on Spey, and south of the A938 from Carrbridge. It lies south east of Duthil, on the south side of the River Dulnain. It is situated north east of Lagavaich, in the rectangle formed by the Bridge of Ballachurn, the Bridge of Craighead, the Bridge of Lagavaich and the Bridge of Coul.

LOCH MALLACHAIDH or MALLACHIE

This loch lies south of the A95 road between Boat of Garten and Grantown on Spey, south of the area where the Mullochard farm cottages are to be found. Beside it sits Loch Garten. Both are within the Cairngorms National Park.

"Loch Garten is connected with a smaller loch to the west, which bears the ominous name of Lock Mallachaidh, the Loch of the Curse. The belief was common in olden time that curses might be laid upon things and living beings...Loch Mallachie is the source of the Mullin-garroch Burn, which runs into the Spey opposite Boat of Garten Station."

Summary Notes
According to the 1976 Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 map, Mullochard comprises two roofed buildings. These structures stand about 400m south-west of Dualts farmstead, and are within a modern forestry plantation. Mullochard is depicted by the 1st edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of Banffshire (1872) as a farmstead comprising four roofed buildings. Two of these are arranged at right angles around two sides of a courtyard, while another is shown as having an attached enclosure. A roofless circular feature is also shown, attached to the rear of a long, rectangular building; this may be a horse-gang, used in the nineteenth century to power a range of farm machinery, including threshing machines.
